Our philosophyधयेय Dhyeya
Our Dhyeya (mission) is to explore the design directions, and processes, which make the built environment, functionally, psychologically, environmentally and spiritually, more contextual, integrated and comfortable for its users. Our design practice is a pursuit for responsible architecture focusing on the conservation of resources and conservation of our built and cultural heritage.
our approach
The design approach of Abhikram is based on sustainable and traditional methods of construction, using local recyclable, low embodied energy materials with an aim to revive indigenous knowledge, skills, and arts and crafts, to bring it into mainstream. Our 45 years of design practice is a pursuit for responsible architecture focusing on the conservation of resources and conservation of our built and cultural heritage. Panika, meaning “dissemination” in Sanskrit, is a consultancy firm dedicated to sharing Abhikram’s expertise. It engages in projects that revive traditional decision-making processes within contemporary contexts while emphasizing energy conservation through Passive Human Comfort Systems.

Our initiatives—ranging from the Unknown Craftsperson Trophy, which bridges students with India’s rich craft traditions, to Heritage Conservation Committee (HCC) Activities, which redefine conservation as a tool for community-driven growth, and Hamare Wala Green, which challenges the prevailing notions of sustainability—reflect our dedication to meaningful, context-sensitive solutions. Each effort is a step toward building a future that values the past while embracing innovation.

Yaadein
“Yaadein Abhikram Ki” was a heartfelt celebration of Abhikram’s 40-year journey in architecture, conservation, and sustainable design. Held at Nirma University, Ahmedabad, on December 21, 2019, it brought together Abhikram’s extended family to honor the legacy of Nimish Patel and Parul Zaveri. Through anecdotes, discussions, and musical tributes, the event highlighted their commitment to responsible architecture, cultural heritage, and traditional craftsmanship.
